Background The Oklahoma Christian University cheerleading program has provided the school with support and enthusiasm for years. The OC cheerleaders have a longstanding tradition of maintaining high spirits while supporting the athletic program and setting a good example in and out of uniform. The OC cheerleaders strive to uphold moral standards and work to set an Christian example in the community. The OC cheerleaders cheer for home and away men’s and women’s basketball games. The cheerleaders also offer support to OC’s other sports and do their part to get involved with the community. One example of their community involvement is the annual Cheer Clinic, which gives younger, aspiring cheerleaders the chance to learn material and to perform during halftime of an OC home game. Mission The primary purpose of OC Cheerleading is to behave in a Christ-like manner and to uphold team spirit and good relations on campus, in the loyal community and with other teams we may encounter. The squad strives to work in harmony with coaches and captains, with school administration, and with other athletic teams. The OC cheer squad hosts cheerleading clinics for girls in grades K through 9. During each clinic, OC’s cheerleaders teach the girls a routine, a cheer, new stunts and tumbling. The girls then perform at halftime of an OC basketball game. Theme Nights To get OC’s student body involved, the cheerleaders team up with the Student Government Association to organize theme nights so everyone can dress up to show their school pride. This is a good opportunity to get the students and fans more involved with the basketball games. Theme nights are based on the time of year and the opponents that OC plays. Past theme nights have included Retro Night, Foil Night, Camo Night and Maroon Night. Contacts Paige Bailey (Sponsor) - Email Mary Penner (Sponsor) - Email |
