Eagles seize win over Tabor College

HILLSBORO, Kan. (Oct. 5, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian men’s soccer team notched another dominant win in Monday afternoon’s game. The Eagles prevailed against Tabor College (Kan.) grabbing an 8-1 victory.

The Eagles started the match with an ever-present desire to score, battering the Tabor goal with shots. Early in the game, Cristian Fernandes utilized a Pablo Hernandez assist to put the ball in the net and give the Eagles an early lead. Several minutes later, OC’s Craig Turbyfill put up a corner kick and shortly after assisted Ryan Frampton with the Eagles’ second goal.

Moments later, Matt Lambert got his chance at the goal and put the ball past the keeper after being assisted by Hernandez.  The Eagles continued to attack the Tabor goal with shot after shot until the last minutes of the half when Trey Boykin headed in the fourth goal for the Eagles putting them up 4-0 at half.

Oklahoma Christian lost no time getting back to business after the half. Following a few shots, Tyler Brady got his head on a Logan Frampton assist to score another goal for the Eagles. Minutes later, Brady put a second ball into the net and was shortly followed by a Hernandez goal to put two more points on the board in less than a minute.

Now up 7-0 early into the second half, Tabor’s Robert Masson answered with a successful shot off of David Simmet’s assist to end the Eagles’ shutout.

As the clock continued to run down, the Eagles continued to try and breach the Tabor defense. After several unsuccessful shots, Boykin found the goal with only a couple minutes remaining to put an eighth point on the board for the Eagles earning them an 8-1 victory.

The Oklahoma Christian men are now on a two consecutive game win streak and gear up for more conference competition on Friday, Oct. 9 in a doubleheader against Mid-America Christian with the women’s team. The women’s game begins at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men’s at 8:00 p.m.

Oklahoma Christian inducted its five newest Athletic Hall of Fame members on Friday, including a first for the university – a current student.

Men’s basketball star Charlie Smith, tennis coach Kris Miller, track standout Kathy (Nelson) Belcoff, softball ace Leah Carrell and current track and cross country All-American Silas Kisorio participated in the formal induction ceremony, held in OC’s Gaylord University Center.

Don Meyer, the NCAA leader in career men’s basketball coaching wins with 923, was the keynote speaker. The former coach at OC’s sister institution, Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., praised the five inductees for developing their athletic gifts and encouraged the 250 people in attendance to do the same with the gifts they’d been blessed with by God.
