(Jan. 23, 2010) – Silas Kisorio’s school record breaking mile performance of 4:01.75 highlighted an exciting day for Oklahoma Christian’s track and field athletes with an additional four first place finishes in the first meet of the season.
Kisorio ran the mile event at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. against namely NCAA division I competition and placed second to an unattached participant. Kisorio covered the mile distance in 4:01.75 eclipsing Jordan Powell’s previous record of 4:06.63 and qualifies him automatically in the event for indoor nationals.
In Norman, Okla., Frezer Legesse, Rachel Snider, Geoffrey Njonjo, and Denise Mattoon all came away with first-place finishes.
Frezer Legesse won the mile event timing a 4:24.00 with teammate Brayden Barrientez claiming second place in 4:26.55.
Rachel Snider captured the women’s 800 with a 2:23.42 while Geoffrey Njonjo claimed the title in the 3000 meters running an 8:50.87. David McWilliams placed second behind Njonjo in the 3000 meters running an 8:58.49.
In the field events, Denise Mattoon launched the weight throw two and a half feet past her previous school record to place first in the event. Mattoon’s 57-foot, eight and a half-inch throw qualifies her automatically for indoor nationals.
Additional top three finishers for the Eagles included Renaldo Garrett who turned in a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.55 seconds. Phillip Dale jumped 22 feet and one quarter-inch to place second in the long jump while Philip Deal earned third place in the pole vault with a 13-foot, nine and one quarter-inch effort.
On the Lady Eagles’ side, Nicole Lair placed second in the 1000 meters running a 3:16.62. Teammate Melyssa Cardenas finished in third place with a 3:21.74 with Kaili Tucker narrowly placing in fourth with a 3:21.76.
Snider also claimed a third place finish in the mile with a 5:21.21.
Additionally, Michelle Marcha jumped to second place in the high jump with a five-foot, one and three quarter-inch performance.
The track and field teams will head to Joplin, Mo. next weekend to compete in a Friday-Saturday meet hosted by Missouri Southern State University.
