Lady Eagles earn sixth win, Eagles take first loss

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. (Sept. 19, 2009) – The Lady Eagles earned their sixth win of the season Saturday evening in a 2-0 victory while the Eagles took their first lost of the year in a 2-1 game against Baker University.

The Oklahoma Christian women met the Baker women’s team head on with several early attempts at goals. Through numerous back and forth drives, neither team found the goal in the first half.

The second half saw a quick and agile Lady Eagles’ team. Not long into the half, Stephanie Duncan made her way past the Baker defense and shot the ball into the net scoring her sixth goal of the season. Later in the half, Duncan again found the back of the net off Angela Pete’s assist to make the score 2-0.

The Oklahoma Christian women held firm to the completion of the game and gained their sixth win of the season to make their record 6-0-1.

From the start of the men’s game, Oklahoma Christian matched a tough No. 4 Baker offense with a tough defense that held firm to the Wildcats’ attacks. Nearly midway through the first half, however, Baker’s Jacob Chiarelli put the ball in the net off of a Kome Okiomah cross.

Later in the half, OC’s Neil Hilton answered off of a well-placed free kick that deflected off a Baker player into the goal to tie the game at 1-1.

Through the entirety of the second half, both teams vigorously fought for a goal to put their team in the lead. Both teams saw several shots on goal and with less than two minutes to play, Baker’s Luke Haidarovic put the ball in the net to put the Wildcats up 2-1.

Oklahoma Christian was unable to answer in the time that was left leaving them their first loss of the season. The Eagles are now 4-1-1 on the season.

The Lady Eagles return to the field in Edmond, Okla. at the University of Central Oklahoma on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7:00 p.m. The Eagles will travel to Little Rock, Ark. to play Lyon on Friday the 25th at 7:00 p.m.
