Lady Eagles fall short against SWAGU

WAXAHACHIE, Texas (Nov. 14, 2009) – The Lady Eagles’ basketball team fell short in a close 51-49 loss against Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Saturday afternoon.

Oklahoma Christian got behind in the first half against SWAGU and had difficulty making up the difference. The OC women trailed SWAGU 31-19 at the half.

In the second half, the Lady Eagles made a bold effort to rally and take the lead scoring 30 points to SWAGU’s 20. Kailan DeCamp and Hillary Duncan both contributed to the effort tallying 10 points and four rebounds apiece. DeCamp also had three assists on the night.

Freshman Lindsay McCown added another seven points and six rebounds to OC’s total while Roz Hamilton put up eight points and grabbed two rebounds. Brittney Kennedy and Lisa Chenoweth scored an additional six and five points, respectively, to the Lady Eagles’ total.

Despite the Lady Eagles’ comeback, they fell short by only a basket to SWAGU. The loss is the Lady Eagles’ first of the season giving them a 2-1 record.

The Lady Eagles return home to play Hillsdale Baptist (Okla.) in a double header with the men’s team on Monday. The Lady Eagles start at 6 p.m. followed by the Eagles at 8 p.m.

Oklahoma Christian inducted its five newest Athletic Hall of Fame members on Friday, including a first for the university – a current student.

Men’s basketball star Charlie Smith, tennis coach Kris Miller, track standout Kathy (Nelson) Belcoff, softball ace Leah Carrell and current track and cross country All-American Silas Kisorio participated in the formal induction ceremony, held in OC’s Gaylord University Center.

Don Meyer, the NCAA leader in career men’s basketball coaching wins with 923, was the keynote speaker. The former coach at OC’s sister institution, Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., praised the five inductees for developing their athletic gifts and encouraged the 250 people in attendance to do the same with the gifts they’d been blessed with by God.
