Lady Eagles fall short against Wayland

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Dec. 3, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian Lady Eagles took their second loss of the season in a 68-54 fall against Wayland Baptist University on Thursday night.

The Lady Eagles fell behind the Lady Queens early in the first half and had a hard time making up the difference. The OC women went into halftime ahead by a basket and lost the lead early in the second half and were unable to recover.

Kailan DeCamp set the tempo for the Lady Eagles putting up 16 points during the game with hitting 10 out of 13 free throws. DeCamp also grabbed five rebounds, passed out five assists, and made three steals throughout the game.

Helping control the paint for the Lady Eagles, Brittney Kennedy scored 10 points inside with an additional free throw for 11 total on the night. Roz Hamilton assisted down low as well with nine points for the evening.

Krista Stevens, Katy Clift, and DeCamp each had a three-point basket to put up nine from behind the arc for OC. The Lady Eagles had success from the free throw line hitting 21 out of 27 shots.

The OC women held with the Lady Queens for the majority of the game trailing by no more than six points until the last few minutes of the game.

The loss is only the second for the Lady Eagles and leaves them with a 6-2 overall record.

The Lady Eagles return to play in the Eagles’ Nest on Saturday afternoon in a double header with the men’s team versus Lubbock Christian University (Texas) to continue conference play. The women tip off at 1 p.m. followed by the men at 3 p.m.

Oklahoma Christian inducted its five newest Athletic Hall of Fame members on Friday, including a first for the university – a current student.

Men’s basketball star Charlie Smith, tennis coach Kris Miller, track standout Kathy (Nelson) Belcoff, softball ace Leah Carrell and current track and cross country All-American Silas Kisorio participated in the formal induction ceremony, held in OC’s Gaylord University Center.

Don Meyer, the NCAA leader in career men’s basketball coaching wins with 923, was the keynote speaker. The former coach at OC’s sister institution, Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., praised the five inductees for developing their athletic gifts and encouraged the 250 people in attendance to do the same with the gifts they’d been blessed with by God.
