Lady Eagles overtake Hillsdale College

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Nov. 16, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian women’s basketball team earned a large margin 86-51 victory over Hillsdale College on Monday night.

The Lady Eagles wasted little time getting the job done against Hillsdale College with a quick score by Brittney Kennedy and a three-point basket from Lisa Chenoweth. Kennedy and Chenoweth set the pace for the remainder of the first half scoring eight points apiece.

The Lady Eagles led by as many 18 points during the first half scoring 39 against Hillsdale’s 21.

The second half allowed the Lady Eagles to increase their margin of victory. OC scored 47 points to Hillsdale’s 30 shooting 50% from the field. The Lady Eagles saw contributions from many players off the bench as well as the starters.

Lindsay McCown tallied nine points on the evening while Kennedy put up 10 and Chenoweth scored 13 shooting 60% from behind the arc. Chenoweth also passed out four assists and made two steals during the game. Sophomore guard, Katy Clift, scored 11 points for the Lady Eagles.

Cressi Bryant, Kelsey Kniffin, and Krista Stevens all contributed seven points apiece while Kniffin and Stevens made two assists apiece as well. Kailan DeCamp kept the momentum rolling for the Lady Eagles putting up five points, handing out seven assists, and making two steals. Barrie Mitchell also put up five points and grabbed an additional three rebounds in less than seven minutes of play.

The Lady Eagles earned their third win of the season with the 86-51 victory and now carry a 3-1 season record.

The Lady Eagles return to play this weekend in the Nazarene Classic hosted at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Okla. The OC women will play Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) on Friday at 4 p.m. and then Mid-America Nazarene (Kan.) on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Oklahoma Christian inducted its five newest Athletic Hall of Fame members on Friday, including a first for the university – a current student.

Men’s basketball star Charlie Smith, tennis coach Kris Miller, track standout Kathy (Nelson) Belcoff, softball ace Leah Carrell and current track and cross country All-American Silas Kisorio participated in the formal induction ceremony, held in OC’s Gaylord University Center.

Don Meyer, the NCAA leader in career men’s basketball coaching wins with 923, was the keynote speaker. The former coach at OC’s sister institution, Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., praised the five inductees for developing their athletic gifts and encouraged the 250 people in attendance to do the same with the gifts they’d been blessed with by God.
