BALDWIN CITY, Kan. (Sept. 18, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian men’s and women’s soccer teams both continued their undefeated seasons in Friday afternoon’s games. The Lady Eagles tied MidAmerica Nazarene 2-2 while the men pushed to a 2-0 victory against the Pioneers.
The women’s game was a back and forth match from the beginning. During the first half, the Lady Pioneers scored the first goal off a successful penalty kick leaving the Lady Eagles down 1-0. No additional goals were scored prior to the end of the half.
Oklahoma Christian started the second half in full swing and ready to attack. Early on, Callie White put the ball past the keeper after being assisted by Taylor Cofer and Chloe Harrison to tie the game 1-1. Not long after, Stephanie Duncan scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist by Hope Heinen to put the Lady Eagles ahead 2-1.
Not long before the end of the second half, MNU scored off of a second penalty kick opportunity to tie the game once again. Neither team scored thereafter taking the game into two ten-minute overtime halves. The overtime periods remained scoreless leaving the Lady Eagles with their first tie of the season to make their record 5-0-1.
In the men’s game, Oklahoma Christian started quick from the whistle putting tight pressure on the Pioneers. The Eagles began with an early lead after a well-placed goal by Cristian Fernandes off a Matt Lambert assist. Pressing hard to the end of the first half, the score remained 1-0.
The second half of the men’s game proved to be a quick paced matchup with both teams taking numerous shots on goal. Through a stubborn MNU defense, OC defender, Ryan Frampton, found the back of the net after being assisted by Neil Hilton and Cristian Fernandes to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Frampton’s goal became the last of the game advancing the Eagles to their fourth win of season and a 4-0-1 record.
