As an All-Star outfielder and adored broadcaster, enjoying what he dubbed a "40-year journey in pinstripes," Bobby Murcer was the cornerstone for a struggling Yankees ballclub for many years. What defined Bobby, though, were not his pinstripes, but rather his heart for his friends, his fans, his family and his Lord. During his life, Bobby displayed deep humility, profound Christian faith, and an unparalleled optimism that made him a true "all-star" both on and off the field. He will remain the model for the kind of player, the kind of leader, and the kind of Christian servant we want our OC ballplayers to emulate.
Bobby passed away on July 12, 2008, after a long and determined fight with brain cancer. Join OC Baseball and the Murcer family in remembering Bobby's legacy as we unite with friends to build the Bobby Murcer Indoor Training Facility at Oklahoma Christian. We cannot think of a better way to commemorate his powerful journey than through this facility. Allowing for year-round practices, regardless of weather conditions; providing a private, convenient area for conditioning; giving players and teams comfortable space to unwind, to strategize, and to bond; and functioning as a premier training and recruiting tool, the Bobby Murcer Indoor Training Facility will fittingly become the cornerstone of OC Baseball.
Celebrating the life, the character, and the talent of our late friend and Yankee, this wonderful project will advance the game he loved by nurturing a new generation of talent in his home state of Oklahoma. Click here to give online to this great memorial.
