David Lynn is in the second season of his second stint as Oklahoma Christian’s men’s golf coach and now has the added title of Director of Golf, as he also oversees OC’s new women’s program that’s coached by his father, Greg.

Lynn, a 1995 OC graduate, has been a staple in the success of the OC program since 1998, when he started as an assistant coach. He became the Eagles’ head coach before the 1999-2000 season and guided the team until 2008, when he handed the reins to Kelsey Cline for two seasons.

The Eagles capped Lynn’s first season back with the program’s second NAIA national championship and Lynn was named as the Golf Coaches Association of America’s NAIA Dave Williams National Coach of the Year.

During Lynn’s two stints, he has guided the Eagles to 40 team tournament titles and 41 individual titles. Under his tutelage, 17 OC golfers have received NAIA All-America honors 35 times and seven Eagles have been named as NAIA Scholar-Athletes 16 times.

OC’s current run of 12 straight top-four finishes in the NAIA Championship began during Lynn’s first stint as the Eagles’ coach, and along with the national title in 2011, OC finished as the national runner-up in 2001, 2005 and 2008.

Lynn has been named Sooner Athletic Conference and NAIA Region 6 coach of the year four times, in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008. He’s a past president of the NAIA Men’s Golf Coaches Association (2007-2008) and serves as the NAIA’s representative to the GCAA’s National Advisory Board, a post he also held from 2004 to 2008 during his first run as OC’s coach. From 2003-2005, he served as a rater for the SAC and NAIA Region 6 and from 2004-2007, he served as the chairman of the GCAA’s NAIA All-American Committee.

In 2008, he served as the men’s coach for the U.S. team in the World University Games in South Africa. He’s been chosen to serve in the same role for the 2012 Games in the Czech Republic.

He also serves as an assistant athletic director at OC.

A native of Everett, Wash., Lynn was a NAIA Scholar-Athlete and four-year letterman in track and field at Oklahoma Christian. He received a master's degree in higher education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2000. Lynn is married to Michelle (Hays) and the couple has a daughter, Mackenzie, and a son, Danny.

Hall of Fame Recap Video

Oklahoma Christian inducted its five newest Athletic Hall of Fame members on Friday, including a first for the university – a current student.

Men’s basketball star Charlie Smith, tennis coach Kris Miller, track standout Kathy (Nelson) Belcoff, softball ace Leah Carrell and current track and cross country All-American Silas Kisorio participated in the formal induction ceremony, held in OC’s Gaylord University Center.

Don Meyer, the NCAA leader in career men’s basketball coaching wins with 923, was the keynote speaker. The former coach at OC’s sister institution, Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., praised the five inductees for developing their athletic gifts and encouraged the 250 people in attendance to do the same with the gifts they’d been blessed with by God.
