OKLAHOMA CITY (May 18, 2017) – Meagan Anderson, a former Oklahoma Christian women's soccer standout and a successful coach at Edmond North High School, was named Thursday as OC's head coach, Athletic Director
David Lynn said.
Anderson, 31, will be the sixth head coach in the history of the program, which will celebrate its 25th season of competition in 2017. Anderson played for two of her predecessors, Adam Basic and Sean O'Connor, and spent five years as an assistant coach under another, Randall Robison.
She has worked as the head coach at Edmond North since 2013, going 60-22 in five seasons and guiding the Huskies into the Class 6A semifinals in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017 and into the quarterfinals in 2014.
"I am extremely excited to announce Meagan as our new women's soccer coach," Lynn said. "Meagan was a player and assistant coach at OC, so she knows our culture and she is familiar with how we do things. She will be an outstanding leader on and off the field for our team. I look forward to seeing the development of our team under coach Anderson's direction."
Anderson said she's long hoped for the chance to work as the head coach at her alma mater.
"I'm excited for the challenge and the uniqueness I can bring to the program, having been in their shoes, literally," Anderson said. "Hopefully we can find that drive and that same sense of pride that we had several years ago.
"I think this area and this region has a wealth of talent that we can pull from and we can compete. I want to be able to bring that love and passion for the game back for the players and provide them an environment that is rewarding."
Then known as Megan Pless, Anderson – a former prep standout from Springdale, Ark. – played forward for the Lady Eagles from 2004 to 2007, starting 48 games and helping OC qualify for the NAIA Championship in 2004 and 2006 – two of the program's three national-tournament appearances.
In 2006, she started for a squad that won the Sooner Athletic Conference title and went undefeated for 19 games while posting the best record in school history at 17-2-2.
Anderson joined Robison's staff when he was hired in 2008, helping the Lady Eagles to a pair of double-digit-win seasons in 2008 and 2009.
She was an assistant coach at Edmond North when the Huskies won consecutive Class 6A titles in 2010 and 2011 and finished as the state runners-up in 2012. Anderson also served as the assistant coach for the West squad in the Oklahoma Soccer Coaches Association Class 6A girls All-State game in 2012.
Anderson said she has fond memories of her time at OC, both as a player and assistant coach.
"The relationships, and the time that I had when I was here, are something that I still cherish to this day," she said. "The opportunity to come back, and give back, to the school and the program that I once was a part of is something that stood out to me."
Anderson holds an Advanced Regional, Level VI, certification from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and a National C coaching license from the U.S. Soccer Federation.
Anderson is married to Dustin Anderson and the couple lives in Edmond with their two sons, Aiden and Wyatt.
