Oklahoma Christian tennis sweeps ITA regional titles

SHAWNEE, Okla. (Oct. 1, 2011) – Oklahoma Christian swept the men’s and women’s singles and doubles titles Saturday in the U.S. Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Regional.

OC singles players Bruno Tiberti and Hermon Bhrane captured the men’s and women’s singles championships, respectively. Tiberti teamed with Martin Poboril to win in men’s doubles and Bhrane and Lucie Sipkova took the women’s doubles crown.

The OC players advance to the ITA National Small College Championships, set for Oct. 13-16 in Mobile, Ala.

In women’s doubles, Bhrane and Sipkova beat Paola Costa and Lili Ferreira of Oklahoma Baptist 8-4. In singles, Sipkova won the first set 6-1, but Bhrane rebounded to take the second set 6-4 and win the tiebreaker 10-3.

Tiberti and Poboril downed OBU’s Dario Macanovic and Augustin Jenssen 8-2 for the men’s doubles title. Tiberti beat Poboril 7-6 in the first set of the singles championship before Poboril retired.

The men’s singles semifinals was an all-Oklahoma Christian affair, with Tiberti beating Renardy Guefli 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 and Poboril beating Pier Pieracciani 7-5, 6-7, 12-10.

Bhrane beat Southern Nazarene’s Mosha Andrianova 6-3, 6-1 and Sipkova downed Costa 6-2, 6-0 in the women’s semifinals.
